The deputies of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union of Belarus and Russia are planning to consider the issue of recognizing the validity of auto insurance policies issued in the two countries throughout the Union State (US) at the summer session. Artem Turov, Chairman of the Parliamentary Assembly Commission on Legislation and Regulations, reported this to journalists at a meeting in Vitebsk.
The participants discussed the possibility of extending the validity of the compulsory civil liability insurance policies of car owners issued in Belarus and Russia to the entire territory of the US. The decision on further elaboration of the issue was made at the previous meeting of the commission in January. The Ministry of Finance of Belarus, the Central Bank of the Russian Federation, the Russian Union of Auto Insurers, the Belarusian Bureau of Transport Insurance, as well as insurance companies of Belarus and Russia were involved in the discussion of the topic.
Artem Turov said that both Belarusians and Russians brought up the topic of distributing auto insurance policies to the entire Union State in their appeals. “We have received support from specialized bodies, auto insurers and we will submit this issue to the summer session of the Parliamentary Assembly, so that, together with the executive authorities, come to a common decision in the future. Either it will be an intergovernmental agreement that will lead to a specific change, or a model law recommended to further adoption by the national parliaments. We will move in parallel in these two directions, “the chairman of the commission noted. He added that experts will calculate all financial mechanisms by June, so that the discussion will be as constructive as possible.
